Are fluorescent whitening agents harmful to the human body?

  1. No irritation to the skin

After years of animal and human experiments, it has been shown that even direct contact with fluorescent whitening agents on the skin is non irritating and does not cause skin allergies. Fluorescent whitening agents are not absorbed by the skin, and even if there may be a small amount of adhesion to the skin during use, they will not react with the human skin. Moreover, they can be easily completely washed off through daily washing activities (such as washing hands, bathing, etc.) and will not be absorbed through the skin. Therefore, direct contact between the skin and laundry detergent with added whitening agents will not cause harm.

  2. (2) No adverse effects on wound healing

In the article "Toxicological properties of fluorescent whitening agents" published in the 1994 German Journal of Dermatology, it was pointed out that even direct contact with wounds using textile materials containing fluorescent whitening agents will not have adverse effects on wound healing and will not cause pathological changes to the human skin.

  3. (3) Fluorescent whitening agent CBS has no teratogenicity or carcinogenicity

Through acute toxicity studies on various animals and two-year chronic toxicity experiments in mice, it has been proven that fluorescent whitening agents are non-toxic substances, with no teratogenicity, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, or photocarcinogenic reactions.
